Play is like a child’s secret language, and it often lets them express themselves more effectively than using words alone. Play therapy is all about helping children navigate their emotions without feeling the pressure to talk explicitly about their challenges.
Play Therapy Offers:
- A Safe Space: It’s like a cozy hideaway where children can open up about their feelings.
- An Expert Guide: A skilled therapist is there to support them throughout this journey.
- Play Zone: Imagine a playroom, stocked with all kinds of stuff like dolls, a sand tray, musical instruments, miniature figures, paint, clay, storybooks, craft supplies, and puppets
What Happens in a Play Therapy Session?
Well, it’s mainly driven by the child. The therapist pays close attention to what the child’s into and what they want to do during each session. Sometimes, when it fits, the therapist might suggest activities that could be helpful.
These sessions usually run for 40 minutes.
Right from the start, we set clear goals so everyone knows why we’re doing this. And, as we go along, we keep an eye on progress, making sure we’re moving in the right direction.
