You’ve landed here because you care deeply about a child who holds a special place in your heart. You’re seeking help, and you’ve reached a point where you’re ready to find the support you both deserve.
Understanding Their Struggles
The child you’re thinking of is going through a tough time, and you’ve noticed signs that worry you. Maybe some of these situations sound familiar:
- They’re grappling with persistent worry and anxiety that seems to infiltrate every aspect of their life.
- Slight changes in routine lead to overwhelming meltdowns that are hard to manage.
- Mornings are a battle, and school seems like an insurmountable challenge.
- Perhaps they’ve completely refused to go to school, leaving you feeling lost.
- Their behaviour at home contrasts with how they behave at school, making it tough for others to understand your concerns.
- Social interactions are a struggle – they feel isolated, teased, or left out.
- Their rich inner world is locked behind a barrier, leaving them feeling misunderstood.
- They’ve withdrawn, choosing silence over sharing their worries.
- Anger, frustration, and tears seem to erupt without a clear cause, and you’re left puzzled.
- You know something isn’t right, even though it’s hard to put a finger on it.
A New Perspective
All this is impacting you and your family. It’s making family life hard, challenging or even impossible. The adults are cranky, exhausted, frustrated, sad or worried and the children are undoubtably showing these things too, but probably in behaviour rather than words. Currently, family life is not what you’d hope it would be.
So, having highlighted some of negatives, where’s the good news?
Firstly, a reality check.
There isn’t a magic wand. I know. Sorry to disappoint. Wouldn’t it be good if there was!
What there is, is a kind, professional and well qualified and experienced person (*ahem*, that’ll be me) who can come alongside you to help you navigate this stuff.
I can work with your child to support them in their difficulties through a series of one-to-one play and creative arts sessions.
We’ll work out if this is the best path through a process of meetings and discussions at the start. We’ll fill in some forms to help us, but most of all, we’ll talk about your situation and your child.
I can listen, support and help to guide you through this maze. I’ll not tell you what or how to do something or say that ‘I know best’. I don’t. You are the expert in your child. I’ll listen and advise.
This is a partnership. You’ll be involved too, even though you won’t be in the actual sessions themselves. You participation is essential. This work is about relationships and it’s got to be right, for everyone, including the child, in order for it to be most effective.
If we discover through the initial process that I’m not the right fit or they need something else, that’s what I’ll advise.
I am based in Chichester, West Sussex.
